# A browser button for saving X media: notes after a week with the X Downloader extension
I resisted installing yet another Chrome extension. My rule is simple: if an extension asks for access to every website, it doesn’t get installed. So before trying the X Downloader Chrome extension I read its privacy page first, and that’s partly why I’m writing this.

# What it actually does
When you’re scrolling X in Chrome, it adds a way to send the post you’re looking at straight to the downloader, so you skip the copy-link / open-tab / paste dance. It’s for public posts only, same as the website.
# What I liked
- Fewer steps. Saving a reference clip went from about five actions to two.
- Narrow scope. The extension privacy notice spells out what is and isn’t collected, which I wish every extension did.
- Same quality options as the site. You still choose between the MP4 variants that X exposes for that post.
# What to keep in mind
- It does nothing for private accounts or deleted posts.
- If you only download a clip once a month, the plain website at xdownloader.site is honestly enough; the extension shines when you save media often.
# Verdict
A small, focused helper. Read the permissions, decide for yourself, and keep using media responsibly: save what you’re allowed to save, and credit creators.
