# Writing a Resume for Remote Roles

A resume for a remote job is read the same way as any other resume, usually quickly and often on a screen. What changes is what the reader is looking for. Beyond the skills for the role, a remote employer wants signs that you can do good work without someone nearby to check in. A few small changes can make those signs easier to find.

# Lead with results you owned

Remote teams depend on people who finish things. For each role, describe what you were responsible for and what came out of it. Use plain verbs and concrete outcomes. If a project shipped, say what it was and what part you owned. If you improved a process, describe what changed.

Numbers help when they are real and you can explain them in an interview. Never guess or round up to make a point look bigger.

# Show how you worked, not only what you did

Written communication matters more when a team is spread out. If you wrote design documents, ran a project mostly through written updates, documented a system for others or mentored someone across time zones, include it. These are the habits remote employers ask about.

If you have worked remotely before, say so in the role entry. A short note such as fully remote or distributed team is enough. You do not need a separate section.

# Match the location rules in the listing

Many remote roles are open only to people in certain countries or regions. Read the listing first, and make sure your resume shows a location that fits. A city and country is usually enough. Leave out your full street address.

If you can work in a specific set of time zones, it can help to say so near the top, especially when the listing mentions overlap hours.

# Tailor it to each posting

Read the full employer posting and use the same names for tools and skills that it uses, as long as they honestly describe your experience. Move the most relevant work higher. A focused one or two page resume is easier to read than a long list of everything you have done.

# Where to find postings to tailor for

The remote jobs search on Best Remote Jobs lets you search remote software, data, product and design roles by title, company and location, with the work model set to remote only. Each listing shows a hiring region or location label and how recently it was posted.

The Browse Remote Jobs search on Best Remote Jobs with fields for job title, company, location and work model

The remote jobs search on Best Remote Jobs filters by title, company, location and work model.

When you click apply, the listing takes you to the employer’s own application page, so you can read the full requirements and tailor your resume to that specific posting. Best Remote Jobs only publishes roles that the hiring company has marked as remote, which keeps the search focused on jobs where this kind of resume fits.
