# Reserve the footprint: a three-piece block puzzle worksheet
Prepared on behalf of blockblast.co. This is a practical planning sheet for its independently made browser puzzle, not an official Hungry Studio guide. Checked 22 October 2026.

# Before dragging a block
Write down each piece’s width and height in its displayed orientation. In the browser game at blockblast.co, pieces do not rotate, and every occupied cell must fit inside the 8-by-8 board. Nine separate empty cells are not the same as one empty 3-by-3 square.
# A four-question turn review
- Which remaining piece has the fewest legal positions? Mark its exact footprint mentally.
- Can another piece finish a row or column and open that footprint? Consider the board after the clear, rather than just the board before it.
- Will a convenient small placement occupy a cell the difficult piece needs? Keep that cell available until the larger piece is placed.
- After the first two moves, can the final piece still fit? Check the complete sequence before committing.
# Record one turn
Board observation: ____ Difficult piece and required footprint: ____ First placement and resulting clear: ____ Second placement and resulting clear: ____ Final piece location: ____ What would fail in the reverse order? ____
The purpose is to compare sequences, not to apply an automatic largest-piece-first rule. A smaller piece may need to clear a line first. Repeat the worksheet for one crowded board, then describe the space you deliberately preserved.
# Check a difficult position
Use the site’s placement solver by entering the current board and one to three remaining pieces manually. Verify every occupied cell and each piece before following a suggestion. The helper suggests placements and clears; it does not predict the next tray or reproduce game scoring. Keep scores from this independent web game separate from scores in Hungry Studio’s app.
