# DOOM inside Minecraft: read the server requirements before installing

A clip of DOOM running in Minecraft answers an interesting visual question. It leaves a practical one open: does the viewer need to change their own client, or join a server that already supplies the game?

NucleDoom is a useful example because its creator provides that missing context. The official Modrinth listing describes it as a server-side Fabric project for Minecraft Java Edition. The published 1.1.0 release lists Minecraft 1.21.4 and dependencies on Fabric API, Polymer and Plasmid. Those are requirements for the named release, not a promise that every future Minecraft version will work.

For a reader, the first decision is whether to join someone else’s installation or host their own. Before joining, consult the creator’s current server information. A server address appearing in documentation does not prove it is online now. Before hosting, read the release’s dependency list and the documentation for each dependency rather than copying a short video description into a setup guide.

The creator’s instructions also distinguish the administrator command /game open from the player command /game portal open. That distinction helps explain why trying a command without the necessary server setup or permissions can fail. It should not be treated as a troubleshooting guarantee for every server configuration.

# Keep three facts beside a crossover clip

A directory can expose those questions without hosting another creator’s files. I maintain Merging Games, an English collection of game mashups that points readers to original creators and distinguishes downloads from demonstrations and work in progress. Its purpose is to make the next source easier to find, not to replace a mod author’s documentation.

This note is based on the creator’s published listing and 1.1.0 release, checked on October 7, 2026. I have not independently installed or playtested this release. Check the current source again before changing a server.
